Announcement for the opening of an international call to hire a Post-Doc researcher in one or more areas of active research at INAF-Arcetri.

The Osservatorio Astrofisico di Arcetri, part of the Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica (INAF), invites applications for the Arcetri Fellowship 2021.
The fellow is expected to pursue an independent research program in any area of astrophysics related to current research themes at the Observatory, including theory, observations or instrumentation.

Starting date: October 1st, 2021 (not be later than December 31st)
Application until: March 22nd, 2021 – 1.00 p.m. (CET)
Where: INAF – Astrophysical Observatory of Arcetri
Duration of contract: 24 months (with possible extension of 1 year, based on performance and availability of funds)
Salary: €2350 per month (12 months per year)

Activities

The successful candidate will carry out an independent research related to one (or more in case of interdisciplinary projects) of the following areas of active research at INAF-Arcetri:

1. Galaxies and cosmology: galaxy properties and evolution, AGN, galaxy clusters
2. Our Galaxy: stellar populations, star and planet formation, astrochemistry, exoplanets
3. Planetary science, astrobiology and laboratory astrophysics
4. High Energy and particle astrophysics
5. Advanced Technology and instrumentation

Profile’s requirements 

In order to participate in the selection, applicants must possess, under penalty of exclusion, by the deadline for application of the present position:

• PhD degree in Astronomy or in Physics or in Chemistry or in Engineering, awarded by an Italian university or by a foreign university.

Recent obtainment of the PhD, as well as other training activities, documented scientific activity, publications in scientific or technological fields, and a good knowledge of software development and implementation, will be favourably evaluated by the Selection Committee.
Good knowledge of the English language is also required.
