PLATO 2.0 Scientific Conference Announce

Overview

Where: Taormina, Italy

When: 3-5 December 2014, from 9am on Dec the 3rd to 4pm on Dec the 5th

Rational: PLATO 2.0, the third medium class mission in the ESA Cosmic Vision 2015-2025 program, is a survey project with the prime goals to detect planets down to Earth size and characterize the bulk planet parameters  for a large sample of planets with orbital distances up to the habitable zone of solar-like stars.

With the launch scheduled in 2024, PLATO 2.0 will build on the foundations provided by CoRoT, Kepler and the forthcoming TESS and CHEOPS missions.

The goal of the conference is to bring together experts of the exoplanet and stellar physic communities already involved or willing to collaborate to the preparation of the mission to share ideas and expertise and to highlight the potential contribution of PLATO 2.0  to the (exo-)planetology  in the next decades.

The program envisages invited talks, oral contributions and posters. There will be time for discussions.

Oral and poster contributions can be submitted through the registration form.

Important Dates

Registrations to the conference will be opend on Semptember 22.

The abstract submission deadline is 31 October for oral contributions, and 15 November for poster contributions.

Event Start on: December 2, 2014 (evening).
Event End on: December 5, 2014.

Registration and Payment Detail

A registration fee of 220 Euro is required. It will cover logistics expenses, 3 lunches, coffee/tea breaks.

The registration fee and the social dinner can be paid by credit card or bank transfer or locally at your arrival. Registered participants will be informed as soon as the service for registration fee and social dinner payment will be available online.

Venue and Accomodation

Taormina is a small town on the est coast of Sicily. The closest airport is the Catania (CTA) one. The PLATO Conference is based at Villa Diodoro hotel. The location is the following.

The conference venue is 1hr by car from the Catania Vincenzo Bellini airport (CTA).  Public transportation coaches regularly connect Catania Airport to Taormina, and stop at 10 min walking from the conference venue. The PLATO Conference can be reached from Catania Airport following this guide.

Submissions

The abstract submission deadline is 31 October for oral contributions, and 15 November for poster contributions.

For logistic reasons, we kindly ask to register as soon as possible. After registered, you can still edit the details of your registration (read the instruction at the end of the registration procedure).
