Postdoc Position in “Characterization of solar-like stars and study of their interaction with hosted exoplanets” at INAF – IAPS, Rome (Italy)

The Institute for Space Astrophysics and Planetology (IAPS), part of the Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica (INAF), invites applications for a Post Doctoral fellowship on the subject “Characterization of solar-like stars and study of their interaction with hosted exoplanets”. The employment is a full-time temporary position, for 1 year.

Job Tasks 

Research will be carried at INAF-Institute for Space Astrophysics and Planetology in Rome. The successful candidate will closely work with Maria Pia Di Mauro and with the staff of the INAF project “Synergic tools for characterizing solar-like stars and habitability conditions of exoplanetsand will work in close collaboration with the KASC (Kepler Asteroseismic Science Consortium), the TASC (Tess Asteroseismic Science Consortium), and the stellar physics team of the ESA-PLATO mission. A financial budget will be available for participation to conferences and meetings relevant for the aims of the project.

The postdoc researcher will contribute to the project by carrying out at least one of the following activities:

  • analysis of oscillations data provided by photometric space missions Kepler/K2 and TESS;
  • characterization of solar-like stars by using evolutionary stellar models and asteroseismic techniques;
  • study of the star-planet interaction and of the magnetic and/or gravitational effects on the exoplanet surfaces. Investigation on the habitability conditions.

Profile’s requirements 

Participation to the selection is reserved to Italian and foreign citizens holding the following minimum requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Astronomy, or Astrophysics, or Physics, or equivalent Ph.D. issued by an Italian (or foreign) Advanced Studies Institute or University,

or

  • Master degree (or 2nd level Laurea degree, if issued by an Italian University) in Physics, or Sciences of the Universe, or Mathematics or equivalent degree issued according to the previous or actual Italian University regulations which would formally entitle to the admission to a doctorate awarded by an Italian university or by a foreign university, together with at least three years of documented experience in scientific or technological activities related to this call, obtained after the degree.

Candidates should have experience in Stellar/Solar Physics and expertise in Asteroseismology and/or exoplanetary science.

A good knowledge of English is required.
